There’s really not a bad time of year to visit Croton-On-Hudson. Most outdoor enthusiasts tend to turn out during the summer months when activities range from kayaking along the shores of the Hudson River to horseback riding on trails through the Hudson Valley. Some prefer winter, when Croton Gorge Park is a destination for sledding, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing.
We want to put in a plug for the fall, when there’s a chill in the air and the maple trees turn vivid shades of yellow and orange. That’s also the season for the Great Jack-O-Lantern Blaze, Croton-On-Hudson’s biggest annual event. Thousands of pumpkins — all hand-carved on-site — are arranged into brilliant displays that get more and more elaborate each year. It’s all set to a one-of-a-kind soundtrack.
