Tarrytown’s Main Street is a little bit like stepping back in time. You can stroll from shop to shop, ducking into a little café if you need a little sustenance after navigating the gentle rise from the Tarrytown Station.
Everyone’s favorite shop is Ona, housed in an unassuming storefront on Main Street. Calling it a gift shop doesn’t do the place justice — let’s say it’s a gallery featuring works by the best local crafts people. Owner Ona Cohn is passionate about the principles of fair trade and makes sure her goods from as far away as Kenya, Ethiopia, and Madagascar are sustainably sourced.
Housed in a sunny yellow Victorian, Pretty Funny Vintage offers a carefully curated collection of what might loosely be called antiques. There are also new items with an old-fashioned feel, like candles with such scents as “Upstate Afternoons” and journals with titles like “Mostly Whining” and “Dope Rhymes.”
More than just a jewelry shop, ShayLuLa helps you “find the perfect piece that makes you feel absolutely amazing.” Most of the jewelry is made by hand by women artists. Not in the market for a new necklace? There are also lovely scarves, handbags, and even kimonos.
