Cold Spring has become something of a magnet for women entrepreneurs. The energy and creativity they bring to Main Street make it a pleasure to sit down with them and hear their stories.
Jacqueline Azria hails from Paris, and merely being in her presence increases your style tenfold. After all, she spent more than 20 years dressing celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow and Cameron Diaz. Stop by her award-winning clothing boutique, Paulette, when you can enjoy a cup of coffee and a croissant with her. She’ll share stories of editing fashion magazines and honing her design aesthetic, which focuses on items that are wearable, comfortable, and chic.
Doucette, another woman-owned boutique, offers its own clothing line as well as uber-stylish clothing and shoes for women and children. The goal, reflected on the sign outside the storefront on Main Street, is to keep the environmental impact of their clothing “as light as a kiss.” They use vintage fabrics, overstock, and remnants to create their one-of-a-kind piece.
That’s really just the beginning. Ascend Collective sells artisan wares from female entrepreneurs. Most of the sellers focus on working with reclaimed, recycled, upcycled, and ethically sourced materials. Bijou Gallery has also been introducing some new and interesting offerings created by women.
